NEW YORK — Vancouver Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson and his team have been fined by Major League Soccer because of a confrontation with Real Salt Lake last weekend.

Real Salt Lake was warned because it was their first offence. The Whitecaps had been warned for an earlier infraction.

Vancouver went up 1-0 on Saturday when Darren Mattocks made a 73rd-minute penalty following a foul by Nat Borchers. After the goal, the teams argued and players began shoving and shouting. The assistant referees and even a security guard helped separate the teams.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw after Joao Plata scored for Real Salt Lake in the 81st minute.
