LONDON — The English Football Association has cleared Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho of directing discriminatory comments at the then-club doctor.

Mourinho had a fiery confrontation with Dr. Eva Carneiro on the touchline near the end of Chelsea‘s opening game of the season against Swansea on Aug. 8.

After receiving a complaint, the FA says a Portuguese linguistic expert analyzed the footage and found that Mourinho’s words did not constitute discriminatory language under its rules.

After the match, Mourinho criticized Carneiro for going on to the field to treat Eden Hazard.

Carneiro had her duties downgraded and was banned from attending matches or training sessions.

The Football Medical Association last week said it was unable to negotiate a "satisfactory outcome" with Chelsea and the matter is now in the hands of lawyers.
