The Ottawa Fury have signed Canadian international Kyle Porter, the club announced on Wednesday.

Porter, a product of the Vancouver Whitecaps residency program, can play as a forward or defender on the right flank and promises to be a valuable member of the Fury in 2016 North American Soccer League season and beyond.

“We are delighted to welcome Kyle to the club. He will be a great asset to the team whit his ability to play in multiple positions,” coach Paul Dalglish said. “He is very athletic with good technical qualities and possesses the ability to add offence to the team.”

Porter will be entering his fourth season in the NASL. He has had previous spells with FC Edmonton and the now-defunct Atlanta Silverbacks. The 25-year-old also logged more minutes than any other Canadian in the league last season.

The Porter signing comes one day after the Fury inked ex-New York Red Bulls midfielder Jonny Steele. The Northern Irishman also played for Real Salt Lake and the Vancouver Whitecaps before the ‘Caps entered MLS.

Ottawa also re-signed Brazilian defender Rafael Alves and forward Paulo Junior on Tuesday through 2017. Alves was named to the NASL Best XI as one of the league’s top defenders. Both he and Paulo Junior were key to the Fury’s Fall Season Championship in 2015.

The Fury now have six Canadians on the roster following the addition of Porter, including the men’s national team captain Julian De Guzman.
