Marseille striker Gignac out for 6 weeks

MARSEILLE, France — Marseille says striker Andre-Pierre Gignac will be out for six weeks after fracturing a bone in his left foot during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat away to Troyes.

Gignac landed heavily after challenging for a header and limped off the in the first half.

It was feared the injury would keep Gignac out for longer, but the club said in a statement Monday that tests revealed he fractured his fifth metatarsal and is expected to be out for six weeks.

Gignac is Marseille’s top scorer with nine goals in all competitions this season.
