Yaya Toure vs. Fabian Delph: One of the best midfielders in the Premier League who looks set to leave England, and an emerging young star who has a bright future ahead of him in the English topflight.
We’ll get a chance to see Toure and Delph go head to head on Saturday when Manchester City hosts Aston Villa on Matchday 34 of the Barclays Premier League.
Toure, 31, has been an outstanding servant for Manchester City since joining the club from FC Barcelona in 2010, helping the Blues win two league titles and an FA Cup. The Ivorian was once regarded as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world, dominating games with his strength, lung-busting runs and goal-scoring ability—he bagged 20 goals last season.
But Toure has had a disappointing 2014-15 campaign by his high standards—eight goals and one assist—leading to growing speculation that this will be his last season in England. Inter Milan are said to be interested in the Ivorian, and maybe a move to Italy is just what Toure needs to revitalize his career.
Delph, 25, has enjoyed a bit of a breakout season with Aston Villa, winning plaudits for his speed, his driving runs and attacking play in midfield. The Bradford native has three goals during Villa’s amazing run to the FA Cup final, but he has yet to score in the Premier League, leading to manager Tim Sherwood calling him out for his lack of production in the league.
