BPL fantasy: Tough times ahead for Leicester

Saturday features a top of the table match between Manchester United and Leicester City, the surprise team of the Premier League season. James Sharman examines the Foxes' success.

Premier League fantasy: Ain’t No Party Like A Vardy Party!

Jamie Vardy’s record of scoring in 10 straight Premier League games puts him in elite territory. Thierry Henry, Ian Wright, Alan Shearer could only muster up seven-game scoring streaks.

What’s more remarkable is that Vardy is doing this with Leicester City. Through the first 13 games of the season Vardy has 13 goals, leading the Foxes to their perch atop the league table. It’s remarkable, without a doubt. But if you haven’t yet joined the “Vardy Party,” I suggest now is not the time to do it.

While the numbers show he is likely going to stay as one of the league’s top scorers this season, the month of December shapes up to be a difficult one for Leicester and Vardy. Swansea City, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester City are all on the slate. And that tough stretch kicks off this Saturday when they host Manchester United. Vardy’s been great, but it’s shaping up to be a slow holiday season for the prolific front man.

Here’s what I’m looking for on Matchday 14…

GOALKEEPER
Simon Mignolet (5M) – Liverpool: The Reds face one top-10 team in the Premier League to close out the rest of 2015.

DEFENDERS
Nathaniel Clyne (5.4M) – Liverpool: The marauding right fullback will continue to benefit from Jurgen Klopp’s new system.

Erik Pieters (4.9M) – Stoke City: It’s not every day a defender puts together 25 points over three game-weeks.

Seamus Coleman (5.9M) – Everton: Don’t like spending this much on a defender, but the Toffees are quickly finding form and Coleman is a big part of that.

MIDFIELDERS
Philippe Coutinho (8.4M) – Liverpool: Keep an eye on his status for Saturday as a hamstring injury may keep him out. The Brazilian is averaging 4.6 shots per game, the most in the league.

Mesut Ozil (9.1M) – Arsenal: The last time Ozil didn’t get at least an assist in a Premier League game? September 19.

Yohan Cabaye (6.7M) – Crystal Palace: No top side in the next six game-weeks for Palace is good news for Cabaye. Also has the added bonus of being the team’s penalty taker.

Gerard Deulofeu (6.3M) – Everton: Mentioned him last week, but it was Ross Barkley who stole the spotlight alongside Lukaku. The Spaniard will get his, though, as it’s only a matter of time with the Toffees playing so well.

FORWARDS
Odion Ighalo (5.4M) – Watford: The Nigerian has been involved in 10 of 12 goals this season for the Hornets. They also play Aston Villa this week.

Harry Kane (9.5M) – Tottenham: I believe it’s safe to say he’s back, with seven goals in his last four appearances.

My Starting XI: Butland; Moreno, Sagna, Taylor; Deulofeu, De Bruyne, Mane, Cabaye; Ighalo, Rooney, Lukaku.
