Paris Saint-Germain broke the transfer record in the French league on Tuesday by signing Edinson Cavani from Napoli for 64 million euros.
Cavani, signed to a five-year contract, joins a PSG side that has spent very big the past few seasons in establishing itself as a new power broker in European club soccer.
This is the fifth most expensive transfer in history, behind Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United to Real Madrid), Zinedine Zidane (Juventus to Real Madrid), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter Milan to Barcelona) and Kaka (AC Milan to Real Madrid).
How did Twitter respond to the news of Cavani’s transfer to PSG? Here’s a small sampling:
The buzz started on Monday when Cavani arrived in Paris.

How good is Cavani? Why all the fuss? How did he command such a big transfer fee? Consider this.
Edinson Cavani has 78 league goals the last 3 seasons. In Europe's top 5 leagues, only Messi & Ronaldo have more.

With Radamel Falcao’s recent transfer to Monaco from Atletico Madrid and Cavani’s move to PSG, Ligue Un now boasts two of the top forwards in the world.
103 – Cavani averaged one goal every 103 minutes in Serie A 2012/13, Falcao averaged one every 104 minutes. Battle.

Maybe they’ll go to the hair salon together.
Great hair-off in prospect between Cavani + Falcao in Ligue 1 2013-14:same long locks but different styles: one wavy, the other slicked back

That’s not very nice.
Edison Cavani looks like Jimmy Bullard's Uruguayan auntie.

Uh, no.
If Cavani is worth 55 million than Suarez must be worth nearly double that! #YNWA

Ouch!
Buying Cavani for €63 million is like driving Bugatti on Nigerian roads: foolishness!

Ezequiel Lavezzi and Cavani were teammates at Napoli before Lavezzi left for PSG last year. Now they’re reunited, but that might not be a good thing for Lavezzi.
Somewhere Ezequiel Lavezzi must be lying down in fetal position.

What about Zlatan Ibrahimovic? A very good question.
Can Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic work together? #PSG

Must be nice to have so much money at his disposal, but PSG's Laurent Blanc has some work to do to get Cavani and Ibrahimovic on same page.

PSG hasn’t been afraid to spend some money during this summer transfer window.
PSG have now spent a total of €150,500,000 (£131,073,000) on their last three signings – Edinson Cavani, Lucas Moura & Thiago Silva. Money.

Who will Napoli get to replace Cavani?
So who will replace Cavani at Napoli? Fernando Torres? I don't see the Spanish striker staying in London.

Apparently the Uruguayan was late for his introductory press conference in Paris.
Apparently PSG can't locate Edinson Cavani all the sudden … is it raining cash in his suite or is he pulling a Dwight Howard? #snarknado
