SEVILLE, Spain — Real Madrid defender Marcelo has been substituted during a Spanish league match at Real Betis with an apparent leg injury.

The Brazil left back grabbed his right upper leg and fell to the turf after disputing a ball with Betis in the 26th minute. He was replaced immediately by Theo Hernandez.

Marcelo is a first-choice player for coach Zinedine Zidane.

Madrid faces an important Champions League game at Paris Saint-Germain on March 6. Marcelo scored in Madrid’s 3-1 victory in the first leg of their last-16 match with PSG on Wednesday.

Madrid is fourth in the Spanish league and with little chance of successfully defending its domestic title.
