MADRID, Spain — Real Madrid says midfielder Luka Modric has injured his left leg.

The Spanish leaders say medical tests show that Modric pulled a tendon in his left leg during Croatia’s 1-1 draw with Italy in a European Championship qualifier on Sunday.

The club did not say how long it expects him to be sidelined.

The 29-year-old Modric has played in 17 of Madrid’s 19 games this season, forming a productive partnership with midfielder Toni Kroos.

As Champions League winners, Madrid will play in the Club World Cup next month.
