BUCHAREST, Romania — Romania coach Anghel Iordanescu has resigned, ending his third term as manager after the team finished last in its European Championship group.

Razvan Burleanu, the chairman of the Romanian Football Federation, said on Monday it agreed with Iordanescu to end his contract.

Romania finished on the bottom in Group A after losing to host France and Albania, and drawing with Switzerland.

Iordanescu returned as manager in October 2014, after not coaching a team since 2006.

The former Romania striker guided them to the 1994 World Cup quarterfinals, their greatest achievement in football, the 1996 European Championship, and the 1998 World Cup.
