GLASGOW — Hearts has been placed under a transfer embargo after the cash-strapped Scottish Premier League club failed to pay some players their wages on time.
The SPL says in a statement on Friday that “a disciplinary hearing will be convened in due course” where further punishments could be handed down to the Edinburgh club.
Hearts said on Thursday it was “experiencing a shortfall in funding” and will listen to offers for the team’s best players to ensure bills and wages are paid.
Hearts, which placed 10th in the 12-team Scottish Premier League last season, was put under a transfer embargo in 2012 after failing to pay a tax bill.
