Rogers Sportsnet is pleased to announce it has been awarded the Canadian broadcast rights for England’s Barclays Premier League for the next three years.
The new deal gives Sportsnet broadcast rights for 380 Barclays Premier League games, starting in August 2010.
"We are pleased to have secured the broadcast rights for England’s Barclays Premier League," said Doug Beeforth, President of Rogers Sportsnet. "The Premier League has been part of Sportsnet programming since our first year, so it’s great to have the best soccer league in the world back for the next three years."
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore added, "We are extremely pleased to have sold our broadcast rights to Rogers Sportsnet and are entirely confident that they will provide excellent coverage of the Barclays Premier League to our many fans in Canada."
The Barclays Premier League is the biggest continuous annual sporting event in the world. Across nine months of the year 380 matches are beamed out to over 500 million homes in more than 200 countries. The competition features 20 soccer clubs operating on a system of promotion and relegation.
The current champions are Manchester United, who won their 11th Barclays Premier League title last season, the most of any Premier League team.
Earlier this year Sportsnet signed a three-year agreement to broadcast the UEFA Champions League, which features some of the best teams from the Barclays Premier League.
Sportsnet gives viewers added value for their Barclays Premier League broadcasts with Soccercentral, a 30-minute pre-and-post game show hosted by Gerry Dobson along with analyst Craig Forrest, a former goalkeeper in the Premier League.
