LONDON — Tottenham will play its home games in next season’s Champions League at Wembley Stadium after reaching an agreement with the English Football Association.

Under the deal, Spurs have the option of playing their Premier League and domestic cup games at Wembley during the 2017-18 season.

Next season will be Tottenham’s last at White Hart Lane, with work having already begun on their new 400-million pound ($585 million) stadium — adjacent to the current ground — that is scheduled to be ready for the start of the 2018-19 season. The club therefore needs a temporary home.

Tottenham is playing its European fixtures at Wembley next season to meet UEFA requirements, because works in and around White Hart Lane will affect access and capacity.——
