VALENCIA, Spain — Levante defender Sergio Ballesteros says he plans to play another season with the Spanish club after reaching the number of games stipulated by his contract to trigger a one-year extension through 2013-14.
The 37-year-old team captain appeared in his 25th game this season on Saturday in Levante’s 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao, the minimum number of games needed to activate the extension.
Ballesteros told sports daily Marca "I will continue another year, fighting hard and making trouble. I am very happy and thankful for the support I have received."
The veteran Ballesteros has a reputation as one of Spain’s most physical players.
He played a leading part in Levante’s memorable 2011-12 season when it reached first place in the standings for the first time.
