MADRID — Real Madrid says it has extended the contract of Germany midfielder Toni Kroos until June 2022.

Kroos’ previous contract was set to expire in 2020.

The 26-year-old Kroos arrived at the Spanish club in 2014, after helping his national team win that year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Kroos has played 108 matches with Madrid, helping the club win last season’s Champions League. He also won a Champions League title while playing for Bayern Munich in 2013.

Winless in its last four matches, Madrid’s next game is at Real Betis on Saturday in the Spanish league.
