Midfielder Michael Bradley will undergo surgery in New York on Tuesday to correct a lingering nerve issue in his foot, a Toronto FC spokesperson said Monday.
Bradley, a U.S. international, battled through the foot issue most of this season. He missed two team practices last week so that he could attend appointments with a local doctor and receive a medical update on his condition.
TFC also confirmed Tuesday that star striker Jermain Defoe has returned to England to continue treating a lingering groin injury.
Toronto FC lost 1-0 to New England on Saturday in its final game of the 2014 Major League Soccer season. Toronto ended up finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference standings, and failed to qualify for the playoffs for an eighth straight year.
TFC is scheduled to have its end-of-season press conferences with players Tuesday at its Downsview training facility. Bradley and Defoe, the club’s two high-profile players, won’t be in attendance.
