FLORENCE, Italy — Key midfielders Daniele De Rossi and Marco Verratti have left Italy’s training camp with injuries a day before a key match against Croatia.
The Italian federation did not provide details on De Rossi, who was apparently injured during training Thursday, while Verratti has had a left calf problem.
Coach Antonio Conte already called up AC Milan’s Giacomo Bonaventura as a replacement earlier in the week for Verratti.
Other key midfielders on the squad include Andrea Pirlo and Claudio Marchisio
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is also a doubt with an elbow problem.
Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli and Sassuolo striker Simone Zaza withdrew with injuries on Monday and Sassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi was called up.
Italy faces Group H leader Croatia in Split on Friday in a European Championship qualifier, then meets Portugal in Geneva four days later in a friendly.
The Azzurri are second in the group, two points behind Croatia.
