Soccer is sometimes referred to as “the beautiful game.” Kendall Waston’s World Cup-clinching goal for Costa Rica on Saturday showed us why.

Down 1-0 at home to Honduras in World Cup qualifying on Saturday, Costa Rica needed a goal to secure its spot in the 2018 World Cup. Kendall Waston answered the call in the 11th hour, sending the stadium, the commentator and, likely, the entire country, into a frenzy.

Waston has scored twice in competitive matches, both of which have come against Honduras in this qualifying cycle.

The goal was even more emotional because Costa Rica was devastated by Tropical Storm Nate. The match was actually moved from Friday to Saturday due to the storm.

Costa Rica is the second CONCACAF nation to qualify for the World Cup along with Mexico. Los Ticos have reached four of the last five tournaments.
