The Vancouver Whitecaps have transferred Canadian midfielder Kianz Froese to Fortuna Dusseldorf in Germany, the team announced on Wednesday.
“We thank Kianz for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best with Fortuna Düsseldorf,” said Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson. “This is a good opportunity for Kianz to continue his development both on and off the pitch. This move will also open a pathway for our young midfield players who are ready to compete for minutes.”
The Whitecaps will receive a bonus based on the amount of matches Froese plays and a percentage of any future transfer fees.
Froese, 20, made 15 appearances across three seasons for the Whitecaps after graduating from the Residency program. He also has two caps for the Canadian national team under his belt.
Fortuna is currently ninth in the German second division.
