TORONTO (October 30, 2013) Start spreading the news…Sportsnet and Nick Kypreos are both going the extra mile this weekend at the 2013 ING New York City Marathon, as Sportsnet delivers exclusive Canadian coverage of the historic race on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT on Sportsnet ONE. Kypreos is trading in his skates for running shoes to take on the 26.2 mile race through New York’s five boroughs.
Participating in his first marathon at 47 years old, Kypreos – a member of the 1994 Stanley Cup Champion New York Rangers – will be following in the footsteps of his former Ranger teammates who have tested their limits by completing the New York City Marathon, including Mark Messier, Adam Graves and Mike Richter. Kypreos was scheduled to run the marathon in 2012, however, the race was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy.
The historic race returns to the streets of New York City in 2013 with an expected 48,000 participants. The ING New York City Marathon began in 1970 and has become recognized as a leader among marathons around the world for professional and recreational runners alike, with the city’s diverse neighbourhoods serving as a backdrop to the must-see exhibition.
Nick Kypreos is available for interviews leading up to and following Sunday’s marathon.
