Taking it a day at a time
July 20, 2010

Serena Williams' agent says the 13-time Grand Slam singles champion is hoping to recover from a foot injury in time to play at the U.S. Open.
Agent Jill Smoller says in a telephone interview Tuesday that Williams is "taking it a day at a time." Smoller also calls the No. 1-ranked American "a fast healer."
Williams had surgery last week in Los Angeles to repair deep cuts on her right foot and has pulled out of three hard-court tournaments leading up to the U.S. Open. She tweeted Tuesday about spending a "5th day in bed."
Williams was hurt while she was in Munich this month -- shortly after winning her fourth Wimbledon singles title July 3, and before playing in an exhibition match against Kim Clijsters on July 8.
