Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams have received the top seeds for next week’s Rogers Cup.

On Monday the tournament announced the mens’ and womens’ seeds.

Thornhill’s Milos Raonic will be seeded No. 13 , reflecting his world ranking. The top 16 mens’ seeds are all in line with their ATP rankings, including recent Wimbledon champion Andy Murray at No. 2, and Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and No. 4 and 5 respectively.

On the womens’ side only Williams’ seed reflects her ranking, as the originally intended No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova announced on Sunday that she was withdrawing from the tournament due to a hip injury. As a result, No. 3 ranked Victoria Azarenka has been given the No. 2 seed.

Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., who made news last month at Wimbledon after bouncing former world No. 1 Anna Ivanovic, has received a wild card berth into the tournament. The 58th ranked player in the world will also be taking part in an exhibition where she will pair up with tennis legend Monica Seles in a doubles match against Serena and Venus Williams.

Wimbledon winner Marion Bartoli is seeded eighth.

The Rogers Cup is taking place Aug. 2-11 at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal and from Aug. 3-11 at Rexall Centre in Toronto. The men will be playing in Montreal, the women in Toronto.
