CHARLESTON, S.C. — Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard has advanced to the second round of the Volvo Car Open.
The 17th-seeded Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., dispatched Romania’s Alexandra Dulgheru 6-3, 6-4 in first-round play on Tuesday.
Bouchard fired two aces and won 60 per cent of her first service points in the match, which lasted one hour 52:14.
Bouchard is ranked 46th on the WTA standings. Dulgheru is 97th.
In doubles action, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Croatian partner Darija Jurak downed American pair Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the second round.
