PRAGUE, Czech Republic — Tomas Berdych says Dani Vallverdu has become his new coach, just weeks after the Venezuelan split with Andy Murray.

Tuesday’s announcement on Berdych’s social media accounts will see Vallverdu take over from Czech coach Tomas Krupa.

The seventh-ranked Berdych opted for Murray’s former assistant coach after being turned down by fellow Czech Ivan Lendl. Berdych approached Lendl after the eight-time Grand Slam champion ended a successful two-year stint with Murray earlier this year.

The 29-year-old Berdych led the Czechs to two Davis Cup titles but has yet to win a Grand Slam tournament. He was a runner-up at Wimbledon in 2010 and reached the highest ranking position at No. 5 last year.

Berdych says his new fitness coach is Azuz Simcich.
