ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan’s appeal to reschedule its abandoned Davis Cup tie with New Zealand will be considered by the International Tennis Federation next Tuesday.
The Asia-Oceania Group II tie this month was stopped during the second singles when Sri Lankan referee Ashita Ajigala declared the grass-court in Yangon, Myanmar, unplayable and awarded the tie to New Zealand.
Mumtaz Yousuf, secretary of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, said on Tuesday he received confirmation from the ITF that it will consider the appeal at a board meeting in London next week.
“Now we are hopeful,” Yousuf said.
Pakistan previously sent player Aisam-ul-Haq to London to present a detailed briefing to ITF officials.
Against New Zealand, Pakistan won the first singles and was leading in the second, where it wants to resume the tie.
It chose Yangon because all of Pakistan’s home ties are at neutral venues due to security concerns.
