LONDON — The Lawn Tennis Association says Judy Murray has resigned as Britain’s Fed Cup captain.

Murray, the mother of Andy Murray, is stepping down after five years to spend more time with her family as well as concentrating on her grassroots programs.

The Scot became a grandmother when Andy Murray and his wife Kim had a daughter last month.

In a statement released by the LTA on Tuesday, Murray says "the Fed Cup format is in desperate need of a revamp. It’s crucial we use this global competition as a means of attracting and retaining girls in competitive tennis at every level."
