VIENNA — Former player Stefan Koubek has been appointed Austria’s Davis Cup captain.
The Austrian tennis federation says on Friday the 38-year-old Koubek will take over from Clemens Trimmel, whose contract wasn’t extended after leading the team for three seasons.
Under Trimmel, Austria reached the quarterfinals in 2012 but was relegated from the World Group the following year.

Koubek, who was ranked a career-high No. 20 in 2000, won three ATP titles and played in the Davis Cup for 13 seasons before retiring in May 2011.
