MADRID, Spain — Spain’s tennis federation says Alex Corretja will step down as Davis Cup captain at the end of the year.

Corretja captained Spain for the past two seasons after he replaced Albert Costa, but the federation said it had not offered him a contract extension.

In Corretja’s first year, Spain lost in the final to the Czech Republic playing without the injured Rafael Nadal. This year, Spain fell to Canada in the first round and had to win a playoff against Ukraine to remain in the World Group.
