The Guelph Gryphons held off the Laurier Golden Hawks for a 2-1 win on Thursday night at the Sleeman Centre in front of a crowd of 4,670 at the eighth annual Frosty Cup.

Guelph’s winter homecoming game set a new hockey attendance record for the school. Their late lead was tested, however, when Laurier had a flurry of chances in close with just over one minute remaining.

Marc Stephens opened the scoring for Guelph and Emmanuel Gialedakis scored the winner in the second period. Erik Pushka had the lone goal for the Golden Hawks on the power play.

Goaltender Keith Hamilton was big for the Gryphons in the win, stopping 22 of 23 shots.
