The Carolina Panthers are signing Canadian wide receiver John Metchie III to a one-year deal, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The 25-year-old spent last season split between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets, totalling 274 yards and two touchdowns on 33 receptions. The two scores Metchie had last season were while he was with the Jets after he was traded to them in October.
Metchie was drafted out of the University of Alabama in the second round by the Houston Texans in 2022, with whom he spent his first three NFL seasons.
He sat out the 2022 season after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, but has been healthy enough to play ever since, making his debut in the 2023 campaign.
Metchie grew up in Brampton, Ont.
