Canucks value hockey sense and character though hard to assess in prospects
June 19 2018
John Weisbrod, the Vancouver Canucks assistant GM, joins Sat and Alex to discuss how the hockey club assess prospects, including the 72 they met at this year's combine. Jim Benning has always favoured choosing the best player available, but when it's a deadlock, they consider the needs of the team and the asset value of a certain position. Centres, as an example, are valued high right now. "It gets difficult... We have needs up and down the lineup, so that's not as much of an issue for us." Although hard to asses, the interviews do affect decisions. A handful will make strong impression, for better or worse. The rest blend together.
June 19: Canucks AGM Weisbrod talks team's draft and UFA plan
June 19 2018
Sat and Alex are joined by Canucks Assistant GM John Weisbrod (12:00) just 3 days ahead of the draft. They talk about the Canucks plan heading into the draft and what the strategy is. They also talk UFA & how the team might look to add 'culture carriers.'
Nick Boynton on protecting players' health and reversing failures of NHL, NHLPA
June 18 2018

The retired NHLer wrote a powerful, confessional memoir in the Players' Tribune and he joins Sat and Alex to explain the anguish he experienced from head injuries and having to be that guy on a team who was tapped to hit the ice and hurt people. He told his story because it's such a difficult story to tell. His isn't the only story, and the NHL is still in the denial. "The league and our union are still not taking guys' health seriously." As he continues to see his brain changing, he wants to help educate everyone involved with hockey, especially young athletes. His childhood dream was to make the NHL. He did. Would he have that dream again? "It's tough. It's not worth it. I can't go back in time."

June 15: A true Stanley Cup Hangover
June 15 2018
Sat and Alex are joined by Capitals forward Lars Eller (10:00) and talk about taking the party to the people. They also talk about the pressures of a Canadian market and being the first Danish player to win a Stanley Cup.
