John Shannon: 'Everyone in Toronto should just take a deep breath'
April 26 2018
The veteran hockey analyst joins the hosts of the Starting Lineup to recap the Leafs loss to the Bruins and the hurt being felt in Toronto today. Everything was "hunky dory" after two periods but the Leafs were up against one of the best third period teams in the league. There is plenty to look forward to and the Leafs weren't going to win the Cup and not this series either. "Life goes on," he says. Tanev is a better player than Gardiner, so that's not a trade the Canucks should ever make. He picks Pittsburgh in five, San Jose in seven, Tampa in seven, and "Nashville in nine."

NHL projected top pick a combination of Hedman, Karlsson and Denis Potvin
April 25 2018
Rick Knickel joins the hosts of the Starting Lineup to preview the NHL draft and the effect of picking Rasmus Dahlin. More than a franchise player, "he's a franchise changer," he says. "These guys don't come along very often," notably for a positional player with excellent puck skills and smarts. "He's (Victor) Hedman. He's Erik Karlsson and... he's Denis Potvin." He discusses his top defencemen after the gold-dusted Swede and projects different lottery possibilities.

Who emerges as Leafs' difference-maker to abolish memory of past defeat
April 25 2018
Joe Bowen, play by play broadcaster for the Maple Leafs, joins James, Mira and Kelly on The Starting Lineup to preview Game 7 against the Boston Bruins. He expects Auston Matthews to come out big tonight, but he'll have to find a way past the top line in the NHL. Freddie Andersen has an advantage over Tuukka Rask, and Patrick Marleau has been in this situation before but has never won a Cup. The Leafs didn't have him in 2013... is he going to be the difference-maker?

Mike Commodore on never having lost in any Game 7
April 24 2018
The seven-team NHLer, now retired of course, joins the hosts of the Starting Lineup to support -- shocking, isn't it? -- something Mike Babcock said, which is to embrace the anguish and expectation of an NHL Game 7. He will not be watching the Maple Leafs, for the record, but he assumes it'll be a great game and a landslide victory for the Bruins. In Bill Peters, the Calgary Flames have a decent guy who did not accomplish anything in Carolina.
