Canucks prospect DiPietro talks superstar Canadian teammates
May 22 2018
Vancouver Canucks goaltending prospect back from his stint as the youngest guy playing for Canada at the IIHF world championship, Michael DiPietro talks with Sat and Jawn about fitting in with NHLers and how the first half of the first practice had him feeling in awe and also a step behind. Then he started to do better. "I held my own out there." Watching Bo Horvat cemented some aspects of Canucks culture. He talks about the superstar who helped make him feel welcome and the influence his dad has had on his career.
Canucks' Ben Hutton on constant criticism: 'I just want to prove people wrong'
May 18 2018
The Canucks defenceman calls into from Ottawa to talk with James Cybulski, Mira Laurence and Rick Dhaliwal to look back on a season that "was a tough one" for him. "I know exactly now what Greener wants. I have to come back bigger, better and stronger." He also needs to build his confidence. To criticism he was out of shape, he disagrees but says it motivates him to be in his best shape ever. "I'm a happy-go-lucky guy, but when adversity comes your way, you have to stare it in the face, accept it and challenge it."
Canucks' veterans already setting tone, example, expectations in post-Sedin era
May 17 2018
Canucks blueliner Michael Del Zotto calls in from Toronto during the off-season to talk about his workout schedule, patio furniture shopping and his new sports league, beach volleyball. He takes pride in staying in shape and this was one reason he quickly earned the trust of first time head coach Travis Green. His role in his second year is not about filling the shoes of the Sedin twins, but "as a committee" there are several veteran skaters who can speak up, lead and set the example. "It's something we've addressed already as a veteran group and it starts in the summer."
Canucks' prospect Thatcher Demko on working to prove he's NHL-ready
May 15 2018
The goaltender calls in from Boston to talk with the hosts of the Starting Lineup about the AHL playoffs and losing in Game 5 to the Toronto Marlies. In his first NHL game, he faced the Columbus Blue Jackets in net for Vancouver. "It's something I'd been dreaming of for a long time." He wants to play in the NHL but "at the end of the day, it's not my call. It's the organization." For next year and for many before this one, he's working on being efficient in the crease.
