The next family dinner in the MacKinnon household might be a tad awkward.
In a true "business above family" move, Utica Comets general manager Dan MacKinnon traded his son, Will, to the Cleveland Monsters in exchange for future considerations on Thursday.
Will, 24, was held out of the Comets' lineup for the past few games as a healthy scratch. The defenceman appeared in 82 games with Utica over the past two seasons and recorded three goals and seven assists.
The move comes one day before Friday's AHL trade deadline.
Hopefully, as part of the "future considerations," Will might be in line for a bigger Christmas present from his dad this year.
