The Calgary Flames have named Mitch Love the new head coach of the Stockton Heat, their AHL affiliate, the team announced Monday.

Love most recently served as head coach of the Saskatoon Blades in the Western Hockey League. Since assuming the role in 2018, the 37-year-old helped guide the Blades to the WHL playoffs in consecutive seasons and posted a 95-44-12-4 record.

Love has also been a member of coaching staffs for Hockey Canada, working with their U17, U18 and U20 programs. He won a gold medal at the 2020 world juniors and a silver medal at 2021's tournament.

In joining Stockton, Love will take over for Cail MacLean, who was hired to be an assistant coach with Calgary last month. His staff behind the bench will include assistant coach Joe Cirella and goaltending coach Thomas Speer, with another assistant coach expected to be added at a later date.
