The Columbus Blue Jackets signed goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to a one-year contract extension on Friday.

Korpisalo was set to become an unrestricted free agent.

The 28-year-old from Pori, Finland, posted a 7-11-0 record, 4.15 goals-against average and 0.877 save percentage in 22 games during the 2021-22 campaign until sustaining a season-ending hip injury in March.

“Joonas has been a consummate pro during his Blue Jackets career and just two years ago was coming of a season in which he was selected to play in the All-Star Game and had a record-setting performance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs,” general manager and alternate governor Jarmo Kekalainen said in a release. “His 2021-22 season was derailed by injury, but we fully believe he will return to form, and are happy that he will continue to be a part of our team.”

Korpisalo was a third-round pick by Columbus in 2012 and has a 76-67-21 record over seven seasons with the club.

He was named to the 2020 All-Star Game but did not compete due to injury.
