The Toronto Blue Jays lost George Springer after an awkward slide in the bottom of the sixth inning of Monday’s game against the New York Yankees.

Springer was attempting to go first to third on a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. single and appeared to take a knee to the head area from Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Springer was replaced in the lineup by Andrés Giménez, who entered at second base and slid Davis Schneider into left field and Nathan Lukes to right.

After the game, which ended in a Toronto 5-4 win, manager John Schneider said that Springer “is fine” and “should be good to go tomorrow.”

He added that Springer “was having a tough time breathing” and that the team was exercising caution with his removal.

The 35-year-old was 0-for-2 with a walk before exiting and had reached base via catcher interference in Toronto’s four-run inning.

Springer entered Monday’s contest with a .265/.360/.462 slash line and 11 home runs in 77 games.
