The Montreal Canadiens moved up in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft on Saturday after a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Montreal acquired the 34th and 189th overall picks in exchange for the 41st and 49th overall picks.

The Canadiens did not have a first-round pick after dealing both of their selections, along with forward Emil Heineman, to the New York Islanders on Friday for star defenceman Noah Dobson.

Montreal then signed Dobson to an eight-year, $76 million contract.

The Canadiens used their first pick in the draft to select Russian forward Alexander Zharovsky in the second round, 34th overall.
