Canadiens’ Martin St. Louis takes leave for family reasons

Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis will be away from the team indefinitely for family reasons, the team announced Saturday.

Assistant coach Trevor Letowski will take over the head coaching duties in St. Louis’ absence. No other information was disclosed.

The Canadiens are set to take on the Flames in Calgary on Saturday night. St. Louis was behind the bench for Thursday’s OT loss to the Boston Bruins.

St. Louis is in his second full season as Montreal’s head coach after being hired midway through the 2021-22 season. He has a 70-94-21 career record as the Canadiens bench boss.

This season, Montreal is 25-30-11 and sits seventh in the Atlantic Division.
