Canadiens pull goalie Sam Montembeault vs. Capitals

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault is pulled after giving up two quick goals to Washington Capitals forward Ethen Frank early in the second period.

The goalie issues for the Montreal Canadiens don’t seem to be going away yet.

Sam Montembeault was pulled early in the second period of Thursday’s game against the Washington Capitals after allowing three goals on 10 shots.

Alex Ovechkin struck first for the Capitals in the first period, but it was the two goals by Ethan Frank 1:38 apart in the second period that caused Montembeault to get the early hook.

Montembeault finished the game with seven saves on 10 shots. He was replaced by Jakub Dobes.

Dobes didn’t fare much better, as he gave up four goals on 25 shots in what ended as an 8-4 loss.

The play on Thursday continues a shaky run of goaltending for the Canadiens over their recent slump.

Dobes was the one pulled last week after giving up five goals on 13 shots in a 7-0 loss to the Dallas Stars.

After a hot start to the season, Montreal has now lost five straight games and seven of its last eight.
