The Vancouver Canucks are welcoming yet another Elias Pettersson to North America. The team announced that they have assigned the 20-year-old defenceman to AHL Abbotsford.

Pettersson has spent the previous three seasons developing in Sweden, playing parts of those in the SHL — Sweden’s elite hockey league.

In 34 games this season on loan with Vasteras IK, Pettersson has three goals and 14 points. He also represented Sweden in the 2024 World Junior Championship, where he added two assists en route to the silver medal.

Pettersson was selected 80th overall by the Canucks at the 2022 NHL Draft. He was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract by general manager Patrik Allvin in April 2023.
