After five seasons, Dylan DeMelo and the Winnipeg Jets are running it back.
The defenceman signed a four-year, $19.6-million extension with the Winnipeg Jets, according to reports on Tuesday.
DeMelo, 31, had his most offensively productive season in the NHL, scoring three goals and adding 28 assists for 31 points in 82 games. He also had a team-leading plus-46 en route to the Jets’ fourth-place regular-season finish. DeMelo added one assist in five playoff games in the Jets’ disappointing first-round elimination.
He was initially selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks, where he played for three seasons before he was involved in the blockbuster trade with the Ottawa Senators that sent Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson to San Jose.
He was traded by the Senators to the Jets ahead of the 2020 trade deadline as a pending free agent. That off-season, he signed a four-year, $12-million contract with the Jets.
