Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery, head coach Arthur Smith told reporters Wednesday.

Pitts has been sidelined since Week 11 after he suffered an MCL tear. The team placed the tight end on injured reserve, where he was expected to miss at least four games.

The Falcons’ fourth overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft had 28 catches for 356 yards and two touchdowns this season.

It is a tough blow for Atlanta, which is still in a position to make the playoffs as the second-place team in the NFC South with a 5-7 record. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are ahead at 5-6.
