Ice crush Warriors to open second round of WHL playoffs

WINNIPEG — Owen Pederson scored two goals and assisted on another and Mikey Milne had three points with two assists as the Winnipeg Ice crushed the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-1 Friday to open their second-round WHL playoff series.

Connor McClennon added two assists in the Ice victory as the WHL’s top team in the regular season looked every bit the part as they overwhelmed the Warriors, outshooting them 35-19.

Brayden Yager scored Moose Jaw’s lone goal while goaltender Carl Tetachuk made 24 stops.

Both the Ice and Warriors won their first-round matchup in five games, however, Winnipeg did so in a far more dominant fashion and showed that quality Friday night.

Game 2 goes Saturday in Winnipeg.

One other second-round series got underway Friday as the Kamloops Blazers downed the upstart Vancouver Giants 3-1. Vancouver stunned the Western Conference’s top seed Everett Silvertips in the first round, disposing of them in six games.
