Jets announce sudden death of Mark Scheifele’s father, Brad

Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff addresses the media, announcing the passing of Mark Scheifele's father, Brad, and extends his condolences on behalf of the organization to the Scheifele family, with Mark Scheifele's Game 6 status in the air.

Brad Scheifele, the father of Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele, unexpectedly died on Friday night.

Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff broke the news to reporters in Dallas on Saturday.

Head coach Scott Arniel went back to the hotel to offer support for Scheifele.

“Spending my whole career here, numerous father-son trips, just the energy he had was unmatched,” Captain Adam Lowry said about Scheifele’s father. “Just his joy and excitement for life, and he really passed that down onto Mark. I think his positivity, his outlook on life, is that of a genuinely happy person. A terrible loss.

“Our condolences go out to Mary Lou, Janelle, Kyle, and the whole Scheifele family. It’s a terrible loss, and it’s tough to put into words how gutted we all feel for Mark and his family.

Cheveldayoff indicated that it was too early to tell if Scheifele would be available for Game 6 against the Stars.
