Tiz the Law will be looking to add to his Triple Crown resume on Saturday when he races at Churchill Downs as a strong -135 favourite on the Kentucky Derby odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Undefeated in four stakes race appearances so far this year, the three-year-old is coming off a pair of decisive wins in his home state of New York. After storming to victory in the Belmont Stakes, Tiz the Law followed up by winning last month’s Travers Stakes by four lengths. Those performances have added value to his +275 odds to win this year’s Triple Crown.
Honor A.P. sits second on the Kentucky Derby odds at +550 at online betting sites heading into the weekend, ahead of Authentic at +800, and Thousand Words at +1400. Another New York-bred horse, NY Traffic, trails at +1600, while Max Player sports +2200 odds.
Honor A.P. has turned in mixed results this year, earning the win at the Santa Anita Derby and recording second-place finishes in the San Felipe Stakes and the Shared Belief Stakes. Authentic has emerged as a familiar rival to Honor A.P., finishing second to the Kentucky-bred colt in the Santa Anita Derby after claiming victory in the San Felipe Stakes.
NY Traffic has yet to earn a win in 2020, but has finished second in each of his past three outings, with his most recent run coming at the Haskell Stakes. Max Player is coming off a third-place finish at the Belmont Stakes, and drew into the No. 2 post in the Kentucky Derby. But with Finnick the Fierce emerging as a late scratch, Max Player now enjoys the benefit of starting from the inside on Saturday evening.
While the primary focus of sports bettors is on the race odds ahead of this year’s Fastest Two Minutes in Sports, there are no shortage of Kentucky Derby props bets available as well.
Tiz the Law’s two recent decisive wins have fueled -150 odds of the winning margin on Saturday being greater than 1.5 lengths. However, the odds of Secretariat’s record time of 1:59.40 being broken are listed at a distant +1200.
Bob Baffert has trained five Kentucky Derby winners over his illustrious career, but with just two horses in this year’s race he is a +450 underdog to produce a winner this time around. And with COVID-19 concerns remaining top of mind, there are -250 odds favouring everyone on the podium wearing a mask.
