The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Detroit Red Wings are getting a new look as they get set to play outdoors.
The NHL and its official on-ice uniform outfitter, Fanatics, revealed the latest instalment of outdoor jerseys on Thursday for the upcoming Stadium Series matchup between the Blue Jackets and Red Wings.
This will be the NHL’s 43rd outdoor regular-season game, taking place on March 1, 2025, at Ohio Stadium, home to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Blue Jackets jersey contains a dark blue base similar to the team’s current uniforms and features a large canon in place of the team’s original crest, a nod to the team’s in-arena goal celebration that fans have grown to love.
The Red Wings jersey includes the team’s iconic red and white colours with a custom script of the city’s name along the centre. The uniform also includes the word ‘HOCKEYTOWN’ embroidered on the right pant leg.
This will be the first time the Blue Jackets are participating in an outdoor game, and the fifth time for the Red Wings.
The Blue Jackets are 21-17-6 and hold the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, while the Red Wings are 20-19-4 and sit seventh in the Atlantic division.
