Brad Marchand will not be taking the ice against the Montreal Canadiens.
Head coach Paul Maurice told reporters ahead of Thursday’s game that the Florida Panthers winger won’t play and is considered day-to-day.
He has not yet been ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
Marchand left Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs after a big hit from Bobby McMann near the end of the second period and did not return for the third.
He logged 11:41 of ice time and recorded one shot before the injury.
After the team’s loss, Maurice said Marchand “has been dealing with something, and it got to the point where we didn’t want to make it worse.”
The 37-year-old signed a six-year, $31.5-million contract extension with the Panthers on June 30 after being traded to Florida by the Boston Bruins at last year’s trade deadline. He has 23 goals and 23 assists through 41 games this season.
Marchand, a Halifax native, was named to Canada’s Olympic team last week.
