Former Edmonton Oilers winger Josh Archibald signed a one-year, $900,000 deal on Wednesday with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Archibald played just eight regular-season games in 2021-22 after being sidelined with COVID-19 and related myocarditis. In those eight games, he registered one assist, which matched exactly what he had after 13 playoff games.

Archibald, 29, returns to the team that drafted him — the Penguins picked him the sixth round, 174th overall, in the 2011 draft.

In 243 career games with the Penguins, Coyotes and Oilers, Archibald scored 39 goals to go with 32 assists, good for 71 points.

The Regina, Sask., native is coming off a two-year, $3-million contract he signed with the Oilers on March 6, 2020.
