Rantanen, Hintz, Heiskanen headline Finland Olympic roster

Mike Futa and Justin Cuthbert break down Finland's roster for the 2026 Olympic Games, noting the numerous injuries to the forward group and acknowledging the depth of the defensive core.

The reigning champions are bringing a “star-studded” roster to Milan to defend their gold medal.

Finland revealed its 25-man roster for Milano Cortina 2026 on Friday morning, and familiarity shouldn’t be an issue, as it features four players from the Dallas Stars — Roope Hintz, Mikko Rantanen, Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell.

Rantanen is the headliner for the Finns, as the 29-year-old is fifth in the NHL in scoring with 56 points (16 goals, 40 assists) over his first full year in Texas, while Heiskanen has been a top player league-wide on the blue line with 35 points (seven goals, 28 assists) in 41 games.

Notably, the Finns will be without the man who captained them at the 4 Nations Face-Off as Florida Panthers star Aleksander Barkov continues to recover from a torn ACL.

Also left off the roster is Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine (lower-body injury), but the Habs will still be represented after rookie forward Oliver Kapanen was named to the squad.

Some other new faces on the team are Avalanche forward Joel Kiviranta, Kraken forward Eeli Tolvanen, Flyers defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen, and former Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Mikko Lehtonen, who currently plays for the ZSC Lions in Switzerland. However, Lehtonen is the only returning player from Finland’s 2022 gold-medal-winning team from the Beijing Olympics.

Here’s a full look at the roster set to represent Finland at the Olympic Winter Games.
